Last month we were delighted to feature in the Food and Drink section of Cumbria Life alongside other Cumbrian coffee providers. It is a big step forward for us to be able to offer our coffee online thanks to funding from UnLtd. We couldn’t do it without our partner Rin at award-winning Rinaldo’s in Kendal who roasts our magic blend! Find out more in our 90 second video here.
Read on for a snapshot of what is happening at Calderwood House. There is too much to include in one update, so next time we’ll tell you all about the amazing Bright Stars from St Bees Village School, coffee for your office or for trade customers, and more.
Remember to top up with coffee online – it can be delivered to your door or (breaking news below 💬) click and collect!
Thank you again for all your support and for helping us to continue inspiring change.
The Calderwood House Team
The big news is that we can now offer free pick up from Calderwood House on local coffee orders (collect in car park). Just choose the option at checkout when you go online. The coffee stock will increase as Covid restrictions lift and we are able to further combine sales from the hostel as well as online. We really miss the coffee van, but we’re finding our way forward! We’re also loving our presence at the Whitehaven’s Traders Markets.
Ian Duncan has been a resident at Calderwood House for 5 months or so, and while finding his feet again has been a big help in the hostel especially in the kitchen! We are so pleased that on Monday he moved into his own flat. We’ll still be there to support him with our outreach service, and also delighted that Ian is going to return as a CWH volunteer. Find out more about Ian’s journey in this powerful video from The Cumberland.
Our limited edition stock of the Calderwood House edition MiiR Coffee Canister has arrived from the US of A! You can order to pick up at Calderwood House or direct to your door. MiiR’s Coffee Canister has an accordian-style seal, finished with an easy-grip, simple twist bezel that banishes oxygen from the container in order to lock in freshness and flavour for longer. Grab one along with a free bag of coffee here.
Recently we interviewed Dianne Richardson, CEO of British Energy Coast Business Cluster. Dianne sponsors a room at Calderwood House, and told us why she decided to do so and why she named her room the “Butterfly Suite”. Quite apart from financial support, room sponsorship creates such a positive link with our residents and has a real impact on their life. Read all about it here
As restrictions lift we’ve been so happy to return to some face-to-face events. Recently we’ve attended Whitehaven Trader’s Market and have had the opportunity to catch up with people in person 🤩 and sell our fantastic Calderwood House Coffee. Here’s Rachel and Keith working their magic on the stall. Join us on Friday 30th July for a hot cuppa, good crack and to grab your coffee supplies!
